In deep drawing, the punch mechanically draws a sheet metal blank into a forming die, transforming its shape while retaining material. We consider the process "deep" drawing when the drawn part's depth exceeds its diameter.

DEEP DRAWING
Deep drawing is a manufacturing process used to form sheet metal into shapes with significant depth — typically cylindrical or box-like — by pulling the metal blank into a die cavity with a punch. It’s commonly used in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and appliance manufacturing to produce parts like cans, cylinders, and complex housings.
KEY ASPECTS OF DEEP DRAWING INCLUDE:
- Material Selection: Metals such as steel, aluminum, and copper alloys are common due to their ductility and formability.
- Die and Punch Design: The die cavity and punch shape dictate the final form of the part. Lubrication is often used to reduce friction and wear.
